Take control of your pigmentation.

As the sunburnt country, it is no wonder the majority of Australian women have unwanted skin pigmentation. It is not just limited to the face, many women find the sun loving years of youth have caught up with them, and are now showing pigmentation on their hands, arms and décolletage.

The most noticeable type of pigmentation in these areas is defined as hyperpigmentation, and SuperFade Cream is the product which is best suited to fade this type of pigmentation*.

Age spots, freckles and brown skin blemishes occur when areas of excessive pigmentation cause irregular brown marks on the skin, especially on the back of hands, arms, neck and face.

Superfade Cream is a non-prescription pharmacy medicine that contains Hydroquinone, a powerful fading agent and other ingredients to assist in fading age spots, freckles and brown skin blemishes on the hands and body.  The cream works gradually, and results should begin to appear after 6 weeks.

As pigmentation has formed over the years, the fading action also takes some time.  It is important to use as directed.

Uses:

Assists in fading age spots, freckles, and brown skin blemishes.

Technology:

Hydroquinone is the ‘gold standard’ in pigmentation fading, it stops the formation of excess melanin at the source – in the melanocyte

About Hydroquinone:
Hydroquinone is the gold standard in pigmentation fading.  It works by disabling the damaged melanocyte deep in the skin that produces excess melanin which then forms the brown pigment on the surface of the skin. Superfade Cream and Superfade Face Cream are the only (non-prescription) pharmacy medicines in Australia which contain the powerful active ingredient Hydroquinone.

See the Blog on Hydroquinone to find out more about this powerful ingredient.

FAQ's

Many women suffer from some form of hyperpigmentation. This can take the form of age spots on the backs of hands and dark marks on the face, hormone marks, or just uneven pigmentation. These marks are usually distinguished as flat, brown marks on the surface of the skin.

Superfade Cream and Face Creams contain hydroquinone, which disables the damaged melanocytes that produce excess melanin which moves to the surface of the skin to produce pigmentation. The disabling action stops the movement of melanin and therefore can fade flat, brown marks on the skin's surface

Superfade Cream and Face Cream should be applied only to the area to be treated to reduce sensitivity reactions on surrounding skin. Superfade Face Cream is also available in a 20ml tube with a soft silicone applicator tip for easy and precise application to small areas. This applicator helps to avoid unnecessary irritation of the surrounding “normal” skin.

It is best to use a gentle, soap-free cleanser, e.g. John Plunkett’s Crème Cleanser or NS Sensitive Skin Cleanser.

Superfade Face Cream and Superfade Cream have the same level of active key ingredients. Superfade Cream is in a 60ml tube as it is for use on the hands or body. Superfade Face Cream is in a 40ml tube for use on the face. Superfade Face Cream is also available in a 20ml applicator tube which is perfect for small marks and post acne pigmented scarring.

As pigmentation has formed over the years, the fading action also takes some time.   It is important to use as directed. Superfade Cream and Face Cream work gradually and results should be evident after 6 weeks. Superfade Accelerator Serum can be used to increase the speed of treatment (apply first).

Superfade Cream or Face Cream should be used 3 times a day (morning, afternoon/evening and before bed). As the pigmentation has usually developed over a long period of time, and hydroquinone works by disabling melanin-producing melanocytes deep in the skin, treatment usually takes 6-8 weeks to be effective.

Fading is gradual and can take several months.  If fading is not evident after 3 months, ask your doctor for advice.

We do not recommend Superfade Cream or Face Creams for lightening the overall colour of dark skin. Dark skinned people should avoid long term and repeated use as this could result in hyper-pigmentation (darkening) of the skin. This can result in uneven darkening rather than the desired skin lightening.

Superfade Cream and Face Cream is white.  However, it may darken on exposure to air, but this does not affect its efficacy.  All Superfade products should be stored under 25°C in a cool, dry place.

Freckles can be very stubborn. We have found that the best results occur when Superfade Cream or Face Cream is used 3 times a day for at least 6-8 weeks. Superfade Accelerator Serum may also help. Accelerator Serum prepares the skin by exfoliating the dead skin cells allowing Superfade to penetrate more easily and can make the treatment time of Superfade Cream or Face Cream shorter. Since pigmentation and freckles can be caused by sun exposure, it is very important to protect your skin against further damage by using an SPF30+ sunscreen.

Although Superfade is not primarily designed for scarring, we have seen some results from facial pigmentation scarring.

Superfade Cream and Superfade Face Cream are Pharmacy Medicines.  While there is no specific instruction regarding pregnancy or breastfeeding, we recommend that application of the creams should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.  It is always best to consult with your healthcare professional.

Superfade Cream and Superfade Face Cream are Pharmacy Medicines and therefore can only be sold by a registered Pharmacist within a Pharmacy environment, therefore is unavailable to purchase online. We are also unable to send out samples of this product.

When manufactured, Superfade Cream is white and creamy. It can darken on exposure to air, but this does not affect its efficacy. All Superfade products should be stored under 25°C in a cool, dry place.

No, neither of these products contain any fragrances.

Hydroquinone is a potent active that helps fade unwanted pigmentation by disabling the damaged melanocytes that produce excess melanin (the brown colouring in your skin).  Unfortunately, sometimes hydroquinone can irritate skin, and this is more likely on the delicate facial skin. Mild irritation may occur (mild stinging of treated skin; or - mild itching, dryness, redness, or other irritation).  Stop use if it becomes severe.  You should always test your skin by doing a small patch test on the inside of your arm, to see if you get any irritation. Many people do not do this first. If the test is okay after a couple of day, then start applying Superfade to the affected area.
