How to Choose THE RIGHT Lip Balm

Lips are different to the rest of our skin, so it is important we get the right stuff for our lips. Notice how the skin is thinner on your lips that it is on your chin or cheeks? This is basically because it is. Our mouths do so much stretching with talking, eating food and puckering up that the skin is thinner and more elastic so we can do all the things we need to.

However, some things that can damage our lips and it’s elasticity are things like lack of moisture, wind burn, the sun and overstretching when the skin is dry (let’s face it, that burger wasn’t going to eat itself).

So, what do we need for our lips to help repair them and get them back to their top condition?

You want to use a balm that has ingredients high in vitamin E and A, with antioxidants and antibacterial properties that will moisturise your lips.

What ingredients do all this:

  • Paw paw
  • castor oil
  • beeswax
  • coconut oil
  • cocoa butter
  • shea butter
  • aloe vera
  • honey
  • jojoba oil….. to name a few.

So now that we know what to look out for, what do we want to avoid?

  • Petrolatum (AKA petroleum jelly, mineral oil) ...
  • Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) ...
  • Parabens (Propylparaben Butylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Isopropylparaben, and other ingredients ending in –paraben) ...
  • Artificial Fragrance and/or Flavour (these may irritate your delicate skin)

So, keep our lips kissable by picking a lip balm that works with your skin, not against it.
